For the 2015-2016 season, Senior Team del Sol was selected as Team USA by the Synchronized Management Subcommittee of US Figure Skating, and represented the United States in the Trophy D’Ecosse International Competition in Dumfries, Scotland. This selection was based on the potential for the Senior team to successfully meet the criteria for international readiness and competitiveness, as determined by both domestic and international judges, as well as the National Office at US Figure Skating. There, they took home the gold medal, along with two achievement awards for best performance within the competition.
The Senior Team competes in the highest level of competitive synchronized figure skating. These athletes range in age from between 16 to 30 years, with half attending high school and half attending college locally. Most of the team has been formed by skaters who previously skated on Team del Sol’s successful Intermediate and Novice level teams; as well, there are commuting skaters from Orange County and Los Angeles County, and some who have never skated synchro before! Last year’s successful season began with a debut at the Annual Anaheim ICE Synchronized Skating Championships in November 2015, where the team earned an overall 5th place finish. Thereafter, the team continued to compete strong, earning high technical marks, resulting in placing first in the Pacific Coast Championships, first at their international assignment, and seventh at the 2016 National Championships during their second year returning into the Senior Division.
